Goal setting, housing search, and moving are stressful, especially with limited resources. Use of trauma-informed responses as you work through these program milestones with families can help avoid re-traumatizing them. It can increase safety and decrease stress for all involved, and ultimately promote positive family outcomes in your mobility program. All families experience trauma differently and service providers must be aware of its impact on family relationships and functioning, such as contributing to crises and interpersonal escalation. With this interactive session, participants will:
- Increase their understanding of how trauma affects a family unit as well as the individuals within the family context.
- Examine the common contributors to conflicts and triggered behavior.
- Gain tips for engaging families to avoid and de-escalate conflicts.
