Trauma-informed organizations are built upon the understanding that we all experience trauma that can manifest in our behavior. Their policies, practices, and materials reflect the needs of trauma survivors. The journey to becoming a trauma-informed organization begins with a commitment to examine and change the organization’s culture and ways of working, which requires staff at all levels and in all roles to modify what they do. Although a total transformation of this kind takes deep, sustained effort, any organization can identify and address areas for improvement to achieve meaningful progress.
