Housing Mobility Network Practitioner Gathering
October 8, 2024 • Boston, MA
October 7, 5:00-7:00 | Casual Reception • October 8, 9:00-4:30 | Practitioner Gathering
Members of the Housing Mobility Network and other housing mobility programs across the United States are coming together on October 8, 2024 to build community and explore how to minimize and address racial and class-based discrimination experienced by their participants. This event will bring together mobility programs and agencies currently developing programs to share their experiences supporting participants in the face of discrimination, learn from other mobility practitioners and program participants, and gain additional inspiration and direction from researchers and anti-discrimination professionals.
We began planning this event in response to requests for support on these issues from mobility program staff. As racism and classism are deeply embedded in our American context, it’s vital that we discuss how they affect our participants and ourselves and what we can do about it.
Central topics will be:
- Preparing families for moves to neighborhoods in which few of their neighbors are likely to share their income level and racial/ethnic identity and supporting them once they’ve moved
- Advocating for families when they encounter discrimination
- Working with institutions to make the communities that participants choose to move to more welcoming
The Practitioner Gathering is by invitation only, so if you did not receive an invitation but represent a housing mobility program or an organization that is planning a housing mobility program, and you wish to attend, please email us at info@housingmobility.org. Housing Mobility Network members will receive a 50% discount on registrations for up to five staff. Members that wish to register additional staff, please do so at the standard rate. If you’re not a member and want to join, you can do so here.
